This incredibly appetizing grilled stuffed mushrooms recipe can be completed in about an hour from start to finish. The mushrooms are filled with a crab based stuffing mix, which is downright tasty!
This recipe can be prepared using portobella mushrooms, but for appetizers and snacks, use white button mushrooms. The brown crimini mushrooms are also good with this recipe.
Grilled Stuffed Mushrooms – The Recipe
To make this recipe, first prepare the stuffing, then clean and stuff the mushrooms.
24 large button mushrooms, or 36 smaller ones
2 cups seasoned bread crumbs
1/2 cup cooked crabmeat, chopped
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons finely chopped onions
2 tablespoons finely chopped celery
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Saute the onions, garlic and celery in a large saute pan. Cook until the vegetables are softened. Add the water, breadcrumbs, crabmeat, egg, salt and pepper to the pan and fold the filling together. If it seems too thick, add a bit more water.
Clean the mushrooms and remove the stems. To remove the stems, grasp them firmly and twist out of the caps. That will leave a depression in the mushroom cap for the filling.
Fill the mushrooms so they’re heaping full of the stuffing mix. Don’t pack it down too tightly. Coat the mushrooms with a bit of oil.
